The car park facade is used as an output for the centre to the passing public. It will show images of different events and activities taking place within, whilst helping promote local talent to help draw the public in to use the cafe and other facilities. I hope that this will help drop the divide that is found between the patient and "outside world".
The Cafe or "Eatery" is found on the ground floor. It is spacious and well lit with many windows providing light from all directions. The purpose for this area is to provide not just the patients but also the public with an area where they can get delicious, home made food, somewhere comfortable and relaxing as well as a place where local talent can be showcased. Much of the furniture is flexible and can be moved around to allow performances on the stage or just to allow a little more room for patients who are confined in a wheelchair.
The cafe also gives access to the exterior space to allow people the chance to enjoy some fresh air on a day with good weather, but if it is not there are plenty of windows that look out and bring a little greenery inside.

The mezzanine floor has a couple of private rooms that are for the use of patients. Whether they just want somewhere private to speak to their friends and family or somewhere to have a consultation with their doctor away from the ward, these rooms can be booked out to provide for this.
The first floor is the virtual floor. Patients can explore the “virtual” high street, going through the shops doors to where the experience can continue. In each of these rooms the patient will feel like they are “in another world”. The room’s projections etc can be altered to what the patients want to experience. For instance if they miss the outdoors, they can be taken their virtually with the sounds and images changing to make them feel as if they actually out in the woods.
The second floor provides areas where classes can be taken to learn new hobbies and skills. There are also smaller areas for one-on-one tuition or where the patient can work on their own in peace and quiet.
The third floor is the library. It will be filled with many different types of literature, both fictional and non-fictional, magazines and information on illnesses that they may have. There are plenty of comfy seating areas where the patient can have some privacy and just enjoy their own space for the time being.
The exterior garden provides a green space for the patients to use to get outside and into the fresh air. Within the area there is plenty of seating and walking space to enjoy the “little oasis” within the city centre.
The main central structure is based on the silhouette of a "house". It's distorted as everyones view of home is different and depending what angle you are located in comparison to it you will see it differently. The wooden slats allow the sun to enter the space bringing a new dimension.

Exterior seating area allows the cafe experience to be brought outside on a good day.
High raised beds provide an area where homegrown fruit and vegetables can be tended to by the patients and staff. I want the patients to feel part of the centre, helping put back into the centre and feel part of a community.

The huts provide small, sheltered areas to partake in outdoor activities like carpentry and gardening.
